In my 30-plus
years of leasing, one of the most prophetic lessons I was ever taught was the
POWER OF “No!”.
A former boss of
mine often told me, “Dan, you’ll get a lot more saying NO than you ever will
saying YES.”
Think about it.
Let it sink in.
You’ll get a lot
more saying NO than you ever will saying YES.
So Simple.
When you say NO,
the other party has to offer a concession, to bring you back to the negotiation
table.
Try it. It Works.
And here’s the
secret.
If it doesn’t, (for
that “NO ISSUE”) you can wait a day and change your mind in order to resurrect
the deal, if you choose.
In every
negotiation there is a cautionary expression that is “you negotiated that deal
to death.” With the power of “NO” you can negotiate a deal to death and then
bring it back to life by reconsidering your position.
